What does being autónomo cost?

Since 2023 your social security quota depends on what you actually earn. Enter your figures to see the monthly quota, the income tax on top, and what is left over — plus how close you are to the next bracket.

Your figures

Everything per year, in euros.

What you billed, minus your business expenses — but before deducting your social security payments. Those come out further down.

Company directors get a smaller flat deduction for general expenses.

New autónomos usually pay the reduced tarifa plana for the first year.

The mínimo personal y familiar. The default is the standard amount for a single person under 65; children and dependants increase it.

Your social security bracket

An estimate. It uses the state income tax scale — every region sets its own half of the rates, so your exact IRPF moves a point or two either way. Deductions, joint filing, regional reliefs and the VAT you collect are not modelled here.

How the new system works

1

You no longer pick a base

Before 2023 most autónomos chose the minimum base regardless of income. Now your monthly quota is set by the bracket your real earnings fall into, and you report your expected income to social security.

2

Brackets are a cliff, not a slope

Crossing a bracket raises the whole quota, not just the part above the line. Earning a little more can cost you more than it earns — the calculator shows how much headroom you have.

3

It is settled a year later

Social security compares what you paid against what you actually earned and refunds or bills the difference. Estimating your income too low is not a saving, only a delay.
